Patients with severe diseases, such as cancer, are one of the main demographic groups that are vulnerable to coronavirus. In Romania, apart from the risk of getting SARS-CoV2, Oncology patients are finding it harder and harder to get access to the treatments that are keeping them alive, because of the many shortcomings of the hospital infrastructure and the lack of appropriate medical circuits. Most times, they are forced to wait in line outside the hospitals, in unfavorable weather conditions or improvised tents (that are not appropriate for the cold season) in order to go through triage and get their treatment (like recurring chemo rounds). Modular triage units are a viable solution to offer cancer patients humane conditions to fight for their lives, together with the medical staff treating them.

Dăruiește Viață is creating a Modular Unit within Sibiu Emergency County Hospital, in order to ensure the triage of Oncology patients and a minimal triage in the day clinic, under decent conditions.

Benefits of the triage Modular Unit:

• Protects patients already admitted to the Oncology department,
• Provides the correct framework and medical circuits for the medical staff to do their job safely,
• Provides decent treatment to Oncology patients: an inside waiting room (furniture, optimal temperature etc.), bathroom, access to a triage room, etc.,
• Short building time,
• Can be reused after the pandemic

The modular unit includes:

• 2 triage/test rooms
• 1 waiting room
• staff bathroom
• patient bathroom
• access SAS ​ The modular unit occupies 110sqm, 95sqm of which are usable, and will be available to use in the last week of November 2020.
