An ultrasound for the Cardiology department of Marie Curie Hospital

July 2023
In progress

Children with cardiac malformations which are not discovered in time or at all risk losing their lives at a young age. That is why increasing the diagnostic capacity and accuracy is a true chance of living for hundreds of children.

Every month, the Cardiology department of Marie Curie Hospital sees 1,500 to 2,000 consults, more than 120 admissions, more than 100 children with interventional procedures and more than 200 patients with complex surgical interventions in the Cardiovascular Surgery compartment.

In this context, Dăruiește Viață has donated to the Cardiology department a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine that will allow for an increase in the consult and diagnostic capacity, greatly reducing waiting lists.

"The new ultrasound allows for a correct and precocious diagnosis of pediatric cardiological illnesses, from fetuses to newborns and teenagers. As one of the best devices on the market, it ensures a safe diagnosis, reducing the examination time and waiting time for the Cardiology department of Marie Curie Hospital, which is essential for the evolution and treatment of children with cardiac malformations." - Dr. Alin Nicolescu, chief of Pediatric Cardiology, Marie Curie Hospital

Why the Cardiology department of Marie Curie Hospital?

Cardiac malformations (changes in the structure or physiology of the heart) are one of the biggest risks for newborns. If left undiscovered and, most of all, untreated, they can endanger children's lives.

That is why it's essential that children's hospitals have equipment that allow for the timely detection of these malformations. Marie Curie Hospital is one of the largest children's hospitals in the country, receiving patients 0 to 18 years old. Every year, approx. 20,000 patients are treated here.

What does our investment bring?

  • more precise diagnostics,
  • decreased waiting times.

The value of the investment was approx. EUR 170,000.
